Armed robbery shootout between robbery suspects and SAPS officers in Isipingo in KZN, left nine dead at the spot.
The Nine suspects have been confirmed dead and one suspect arrested, explosives and firearms were recovered. No SAPS member was injured during the shootout.
Officials of South Africa police service SAPS received intelligence report of armed robbers attempting to rob a business premises in the early hours of Saturday, officers swiftly headed to the location and immediately the robbers sighted the police they started firing gun shots.
A fierce shoot out ensued and nine members of the gang were declared dead on the scene.
Two minutes later gun shots were heard around the area. It is suspected that the gun shots was from the escapee robber.
At the time of the first report, Police officers were on top of the situation.
Latest robberu update: Authorities say they received information about a planned business robbery in the area.
Police had earlier reported that seven suspects had died, but later confirmed that another two had been shot by officers at another scene.
Police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala explains.
“While we were busy at the scene where seven suspects died during an exchange of fire between the police and the suspects, gunshots were also heard emanating from the other side not far from the main crime scene.”
Gwala said the two suspects were also declared dead on the scene after they shot at police, who retaliated.
