This is not the atmosphere a player of Ronaldo’s pedigree would anticipate.
Soccer living legend Cristiano Ronaldo made a tearful departure from Juventus’ game against Valencia on Wednesday after he received his first red card in 154 games of Champions League play.
Ronaldo was making his Champions League debut with Juventus when he was called after putting his hand on the top of the head of fallen Valencia defender Jeison Murillo. The question was whether he pulled Murillo’s hair.
Referee Felix Brych showed the red card after discussing the play with his assistant, and the Portuguese star couldn’t believe it, arguing the call, gesturing with his hands and shaking his head as he left the game in tears.
Ronaldo, 33, had joined the Italian club this year after leading Real Madrid to the last three Champions League titles.
Juventus won 2-0.
Ronaldo signed for Juventus from Real Madrid in July for £105million, with the Serie A giants hopeful he can propel them to Champions League glory.
He broke his duck for his new side against Sassuolo at the weekend and was given the nod against Valencia this evening, expected to hit the goal trail once again.
