Man celebrates pothole’s birthday to get municipality’s attention

South Africans are no strangers to the annoyance of potholes, so we thought you would all love this one.

Frank Sereno in the United States got annoyed that his local municipality never listened to his plea to repair a pothole on a busy road. After three months of his calls falling on deaf ears, he came up with a smart way to catch their attention.

Instead of making yet another annoying call, he drove to a nearby bakery and bought a slice of cake. Frank then got a birthday candle to symbolise the three months of having the pothole.

“I thought, ‘What I can I do to have a little fun.”

Everyone is always complaining about the potholes, but complaining doesn’t seem to be getting anything done. So I said, I want to keep it top of mind. I know my fellow Waldo neighbors are just as disgusted as I am so I said, let’s just celebrate its birthday. Its third birthday.”

Frank shared the celebration on social media and his neighbours all laughed at the funny idea. The post got the right people’s attention, and a day later, the pothole was filled by the local municipality. This isn’t the first time someone has got smart about potholes. In the past, people have planted flowers and plants in the holes as well as taken baths.

What is the funniest pothole fill you have seen on the internet?
