Police arrest suspects found with drugs worth R4m


Two suspects aged 35 and 44 were arrested for possession of drugs with an estimated street value of R4 million in Sophiatown on Tuesday, 17 December 2019. Another 45-year-old suspect was arrested for bribery after he offered the police officers an amount of R10 000 for the release of the suspects.

Police officers from Sophiatown were conducting routine stop and search search operation in Westdene when they noticed a white Citroen C4 sedan with two occupants. The members stop the vehicle and conducted a search. Drugs were found in the car and both suspects were arrested for possession and dealing in drugs.

It is alleged that the suspects called their accomplice who offered the police officers R10 million for the release of the suspects. The third suspect was arrested for bribery.

The suspects are expected to appear at Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court in due course.
