Police man commits suicide, shoots girlfriend and lover
The South Africa Police Service SAPS is embarrassed with the entire incident and suicide committed by a cop. According to reports, the jealous policeman committed suicide moments after shooting his girlfriend her secret lover in Verulam on Wednesday.
“It was established that an off-duty policeman tracked his girlfriend to a house presumably her boyfriend. The policeman allegedly confronted the 23-year-old when she attempted to flee. He allegedly drew a firearm and shot her in the head,” Balram alleged.
It is alleged that the policeman walked up to the upper level of the flat and fired several shots at the man. Balram said he jumped out of the window and sought assistance from neighbours.
Prem Balram, of private security company Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) said they were called out to the scene by residents in the housing complex reporting multiple gunshots being fired. Balram said residents called it a lovers squabble that went wrong.
“He was shot at least seven times. The policeman then allegedly turned the gun on himself. He allegedly shot himself in the head,” Balram added.
The policeman and his girlfriend died at the scene. The man was transported to a hospital in a critical condition.
Investigation is ongoing into the circumstances that informed the attack.
Earlier in a similar development, another police officer shot dead his girlfriend at her house in Khayelitsha, before driving to his own home in the area, where he shot and killed himself.
He said the 29-year-old police officer, Sithembele Makha, had an argument and fought with his 34-year-old girlfriend before he drew his firearm and shot her.
Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union spokesperson said the union was shocked that the officer had killed his girlfriend and himself.
“The focus of investigation will be on the circumstances surrounding the deaths,” he said, adding the officer had allegedly called his girlfriend’s sister and informed her he had shot his girlfriend.
