The gallant Police men on duty shot and killed one farm robber who tied up 2 elderly women aged 72 and 76, while the other two attacker sustained injuries are now now fighting for their lives.
Great work by SAPS after the quick response to the farm attack in Alexandria, Eastern Cape, the lives of the three victims have been saved.
Between the early hours of 02:30 and 04:30 on Tuesday, three suspects allegedly entered the farm and broke into the residence where two elderly women, aged 72 and 76 were sleeping
Police spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge, the three suspects tied the elderly women up and proceeded to rob the place, making it away with a 38 special revolver, a white Isuzu bakkie and various other items.
By the sheer grace of luck, the women were left unharmed. However, to the suspects detriment, the stolen vehicle would be their down fall.
In less than two hours after the suspects had fled the scene, the police were already on their tale.
“The vehicle was spotted by SAPS Flying Squad members driving on the R335 close to Motherwell. A short vehicle chase ensued which ended in Siqwane Street, NU11, Motherwell when the driver of the vehicle almost drove into the wall of a house.
“A confrontation with police led to a shooting incident when the driver of the bakkie jumped out of the vehicle.”

The shootout yielded positive results for the police, as one suspect suffered fatal wounds while the other two, who were trapped inside the bakkie, were arrested.
Captain Beegte revealed that a toy gun was found in the car, possibly the item that was used during the robbery. At this point, the fatally wounded suspect has not been identified but authorities are working on finding out who he is so his family can be notified.
