South Africa hits 709 cases: church goers infected in Free State

There have been an increase in coronavirus cases in Free State after churchgoers in Mangaung became infected. This is ‘concerning’ says health minister

Mkhize: As we speak now, our figures are the latest from after 8pm last night. The delay has shortened, we’re trying to reduce the lag. The other issue is that the numbers of people who test is from the numbers of people who go to the doctor to test, and how fast the labs can test.

Lockdown is not about the movement of cars, its about stopping the mixing of people, so reducing the number of infections –

We want to discourage people moving around during the Easter Weekend. You need to be in the same location over this 3 week period.

Mkhize says the spike in the Free State were all linked to the Jerusalem Prayer Breakfast which the Divine Restoration Ministries in Bloemfontein hosted. Five Covid-19 positive foreigners from the United States, Israel and France took part in the breakfast.

Mkhize said they were still looking for 300 people who attended the service. Among those who had attended the service were ACDP leader Kenneth Meshoe, ACDP MP Steve Swart and well-known pastor Angus Buchan. All three have indicated that they have undergone testing.
